Gunnar Johnson
Gunnar Johnson is the executive pastor of financial stewardship ministries at Gateway Church in Southlake, Texas. His journey of financial stewardship began in 1999, when he was struggling under $88,000 in personal consumer debt. After becoming involved in a Crown Financial Ministries small group, he made a commitment to become the best steward of God’s money that he could possibly be. God blessed this life-changing decision and enabled Johnson to begin a new, debt-free business that allowed him to pay off his debt and serve God in full-time ministry. Today he serves as both a national seminar instructor and a budget coach trainer for Crown Financial Ministries. He is also an accredited financial counselor with the National Institute for Financial Counseling Education, a Financial Peace University small group leader, and a member of the board of directors of the Christian Stewardship Network. Johnson has a strong desire to build a comprehensive stewardship ministry that serves every person—from those struggling financially to those possessing an abundant surplus. His heart is to see people walk in financial freedom and live the blessed life. He and his wife, Missy, have been married for 11 years and have three children.
Chad Moore
Chad Moore is teaching pastor at Sun Valley Community Church in Gilbert, Ariz., a young, progressive and innovative congregation with an average age of 32 and a weekend attendance of over 2,000. As the church leadership began to model and teach giving and generosity, they realized that many people in this affluent, white-collar community were suffering from “affluent poverty.” Greed and the need to “keep up with the Joneses” was wreaking havoc on people who had healthy annual incomes but nothing to show for it. Moore and his wife have become passionate about conquering their own battle with greed and helping others in the fight as well.
Bruce Nelson
Bruce Nelson joined the staff of Mariners Church in Irvine, Calif., in 1994. Besides being the pastor of stewardship, Nelson serves in men’s ministries and on the speaking team. Prior to joining Mariners Church, he spent 11 years in the marketplace, most recently as vice president of Tooley & Co./Trammell Crow, a major commercial real estate development firm. Nelson is a graduate of the Marshall School of Business at the University of Southern California, with post-graduate work at Fuller Theological Seminary. He and his wife, Carrie, live in Newport Beach, Calif., with their three children.
Scott Ridout
Scott Ridout has been on staff at Sun Valley Community Church in Gilbert, Ariz., for 14 years and the lead pastor for the past nine years. As a congregation, Sun Valley seeks to weave generosity into the everyday life of the church through increased giving, volunteerism and practical generosity. The church has modeled generosity by allowing Ridout to spend 25 percent of his time leading organizations outside Sun Valley. One of these, Vision Arizona, is a coalition of Arizona churches that has pioneered and parented 18 church plants. Ridout also leads the newly formed Generous Church Movement of the Baptist General Conference, which seeks to make generosity a core value in all 1,100 member churches. His personal journey of generosity began through the mentorship of a roommate soon after coming to Christ during college at Virginia Tech.
Chris Willard
Christopher Willard has more than 20 years of local church and para-church leadership experience, including hands-on expertise in strategic planning, organizational development and fund development. For several years he served as the executive pastor of Discovery Church in Orlando, Fla., helping to navigate the church through a season of significant growth. During Willard’s tenure the church launched three new Discovery Church venues and strategically added finances, staff and systems to help sustain growth. In fact, in 2004 and 2006 Discovery was named one of the 100 fastest growing churches in America. Willard currently serves as the Generous Churches Leadership Community Director for Leadership Network, an organization dedicated to catalyzing innovation in the church. Through this coaching and consulting role, he has the opportunity to work with leaders of many of the most innovative and effective churches in the country.
